Leigh-on-Sea keepers make the short trip east to PL1 Goalkeeping Academy on Eastwoodbury Lane — about fifteen minutes from Old Leigh and the Broadway, past Southend Airport.
Leigh has one of the strongest junior football scenes in the borough, with clubs around Belfairs and Blenheim Park turning out teams every weekend. What it does not have is dedicated goalkeeper coaching — so plenty of Leigh's most promising number ones already make PL1 part of their week.
We take keepers who are already playing good Saturday football and add the specialist layer: elite handling, footwork and game understanding, plus a clear pathway through Academy and PRO. Formed in 2018, PL1 has put 25 goalkeepers into professional academies, and Leigh has produced its share.
