Frequently asked
questions.

Everything parents and keepers ask us most — ages, prices, session times, free trials and more. Still not sure? Get in touch.

Where is PL1 Goalkeeping Academy based?

We're based in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, training at Len Forge on Eastwoodbury Lane (SS2 6UH). We coach goalkeepers from across Southend and the surrounding Essex towns.

What age can my child start goalkeeper training?

We coach keepers from as young as five, right through to adult goalkeepers.

What programmes do you offer?

Four routes: Academy (group sessions for all ages and abilities), PRO (our elite stream for keepers pushing towards academy football), 1-to-1 (individual coaching tailored to a single keeper), and a dedicated female-only environment.

Do you offer a free trial?

Yes — new keepers can come along for a free trial session to meet the coaches and try the PL1 method first-hand. Whether you're new to the position or want to add to your skillset, it's the perfect way to see how we work with our academy members. To book, call Paul on 07920 826461.

How much do sessions cost?

Sessions range from £10, up to £20 in our advanced PRO groups.

When do sessions run?

All our sessions — PRO, pre-PRO, Development and 1-to-1 — run on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 4–8pm.

What should my child bring and wear?

Typically goalkeeper gloves, boots or trainers, shin pads, water, and weather-appropriate kit. When you join, you can also purchase a PL1 kit and glove package.

Are your coaches qualified and DBS-checked?

All our coaches are UEFA- and FA-qualified and DBS-checked, and three are first-aid trained to cover every aspect of a session.

Do you run holiday camps?

Yes — we run holiday goalkeeper camps and Goalie Wars tournaments during the school breaks. Dates are announced on our social media and here on the website, where booking is quick and easy.

Can PL1 help my child progress to a professional academy?

It's exactly what the PRO stream and the PL1 pathway are built for. In five years, 25 PL1 keepers have signed for professional academies across England — from the Premier League to League Two.

Is it indoor or outdoor — what happens in bad weather?

We train outdoors on an all-weather surface. We follow FA guidance on extreme weather such as lightning and heat, and if a session or camp is ever cancelled, our automated announcement system lets every member know straight away — so you'll always be in the loop. Cancelled sessions can be rebooked through our website and apps.

How do I book or get in touch?

You can book sessions and camps through our online store, or get in touch via the contact page — call Paul on 07920 826461 or email paul@pl1goalkeeping.co.uk.
