Prittlewell keepers barely have to travel: PL1 Goalkeeping Academy trains just up the road on Eastwoodbury Lane, on the airport side of the neighbourhood. It is the closest goalkeeper coaching you will find to SS2 — a five-minute hop rather than a drive across town.
This is Southend United's own patch — Roots Hall and Priory Park are both in Prittlewell — so there is football in the water here. We give the local number ones a place to specialise, with sessions built around handling, footwork and shot-stopping rather than being parked at the back of an outfield session.
Being on Prittlewell's doorstep means we have coached a lot of these keepers from their very first catch. Formed in 2018 and led by UEFA/FA-qualified coaches, PL1 has sent 25 goalkeepers into professional academies — and it often starts with a free trial five minutes from home.
