PL1 Goalkeeping Academy is Southend-on-Sea's home for specialist goalkeeper coaching. Our pitch sits in the north of the borough on Eastwoodbury Lane, beside London Southend Airport — a few minutes from the seafront, the High Street and every corner of the town — and keepers from right across Southend train with us every week.
Southend is a proper football town, from the seafront kickabouts to Southend United at Roots Hall, but the goalkeeper is the one position that rarely gets its own coaching. That is the gap we fill: an outdoor, all-weather environment built entirely around the number one, minutes from wherever you are in SS1 and SS2.
Since 2018 we have turned local Southend kids into academy goalkeepers — 25 PL1 keepers are now signed to professional clubs, from the Premier League to League Two. Whether your goalkeeper is picking up the gloves for the first time or chasing a scholarship, our UEFA- and FA-qualified coaches give the position the focus it deserves.
